The purpose of the roles is to carry out the department's team approach to perform resource procurement, electronic resource management, and metadata management in an assigned team; provide support for all activities related to resource acquisition (acquiring library materials), resource access (metadata creation and maintenance) and resource management; and ensure all library materials are discoverable and accessible. Duties include:

  • As assigned, performing resource procurement in acquiring and maintaining responsible types of library materials with major vendors, including checking duplicates, sourcing, acquiring quotations and approvals for high-price orders in all formats, especially on maintaining, checking and activating access of electronic subscriptions, and reporting any access problems identified. Performing timely payment process with audit trail practices;

  • Monitoring accurate payment charge and on-time delivery of responsible vendor lines to ensure quality vendor service to support library collection development. Providing pricing and usage figures to Collection Development Committee for renewal or cancellation consideration and following through the decisions;
  • As assigned, performing creation of original metadata records, copying and/or enriching metadata records for library materials in accordance with the local and international metadata practices, standards, and guidelines; contributing bibliographic records to international library organizations, Online Computer Library Center (OCLC) WorldCat and JULAC shared ILS;
  • Assisting in the maintaining and troubleshooting library metadata to ensure library holdings are accurately represented and accessible in Integrated Library System (ILS);
  • Assisting in providing support of resource management of library's subscribed and licensed electronic resources; and
  • Performing any other duties as requested by supervisors/senior management, for example, assisting in training student helpers on work assignments or project-based assignments.

Applicants should have at least 5 passes including English (min. Grade C if Syllabus A or level 2 if results were obtained from 2007 onwards) and Chinese in the HKCEE; or 5 subjects, including English Language and Chinese Language, attaining level 2 or above (or equivalent) in the HKDSE with at least 8 years of relevant working experience, preferably in the higher education sector. Good knowledge of integrated library systems, OCLC cataloging utilities, metadata standards and tools, MS Word and Excel, and Chinese word processing and also proficiency in both written and spoken English and Chinese are required. (Duration: 2 years, renewable)

Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract.
